We Need Tents

An update on a couple of our guys and, of course, a request:

Douglas has completed two weeks of GED training and, although he tries not to act like he's proud, he's pretty proud of himself. He had one job interview, but hasn't heard anything, yet. We're going to start filling out school grant info, soon, so once he's got his GED, he'll be ready to go into a technical school to study drafting. He had a recent run-in with a young group of kids who call themselves the "Cripts" and although he was really, really angry, he chose to handle the situation by talking to the group instead of getting himself into trouble and going off on them, like he would have done in the past. YEAAA Douglas!!!

Jock called me a week ago Sunday and told me that he was ready to change. He didn't want to live the lifestyle he's lived for so long and wanted some help. We set him up with MHMR and I'll go with him to his first appointment on Wednesday. Jock's been in and out of the system since 1997, but it is our hope that, with support, he'll be able to make it through the tough road ahead, this time.

Bryan told me that he wants to go to school to become an underwater (hyperbaric) welder. He has an appointment on Tuesday with MHMR to start on the right meds for ADHD and Bi-polar disease, then we'll see if he can get into the school, which is in Florida!

We played the TCU girls soccer team this past Wednesday. It was interesting to watch. Everyone (our team AND theirs) came out thinking they didn't have to try. After the girls clobbered us the first game, the guys woke up and won the second game. The third game was tied. The girls brought sandwiches for the guys and we just had to stop for ice cream on the way home!

So, I have a favor . . . (I went from a person who hated asking anyone for anything to someone who bugs you all, all the time for "something"! Sorry!) Maybe it's easier because it's not for me and I see how hard these guys are trying to make changes in their lives.

Here's what I need now . . . tents! Old, one person or two, tops, are just fine. But some of these guys have no place else to stay and with the rainy season coming, they need shelter until we can get them into a job and then housing. (in the system, as it is, housing could take as long as six months) If you have time, please send this request to as many people as you can, who live in the area. I will be happy to pick the tents up, so no one will be put out too much!

Thank you all, as always!

I have a need for someone to serve one of our homebound members. Bessie Hamilton has requested for someone to take her shopping. She lives at Woodridge. She is ready to go as early as this afternoon (Thursday) after 1pm. Please contact Ryan Robbins (817-707-8873) if you are available to help out.

Daily Encouragement

Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened. But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have
